The artist contributes twenty-five thousand pounds cash award to grassroots concert halls

Sam Fender received the honor recently in the North East

The artist has given the full amount of his £25,000 honor prize money to the trust for venues, which functions to save the UK's independent music venues.

He was given the prize on mid-October as his latest record People Watching was declared the best record of the previous year.

Fender has opted to give the cash to the trust, in acknowledgment of the crucial part small stages played in his initial steps.

"I personally wouldn't be doing my current career if it weren't for all the gigs I performed around the region, and further afield, when I was just getting going," stated the artist. "These spaces are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these spaces have shut down – roughly 16 percent of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, well-known musicians such as the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the MVT in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a small levy to their ticket prices, which supports local stages.

Fender also participated, collecting over £100k on his recent tour to help 38 small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

These funds helped spaces that were facing imminent closure due to issues arising from flooding, blazes and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Some locations obtained financial assistance in upgrading facilities and technical equipment that positively impacted artists and fans.

"The idea that money from shows in major spaces backs the local stages, where it begins for performers like me, is just common sense," Fender has said.

Fender is among several artists to contribute his Mercury Prize funds to charitable organizations.

When the band received the award in 1996 for their release Different Class, lead singer the singer announced that the band would give their prize money to the non-profit War Child.

In 2002, artist the artist split her prize between multiple good causes, such as the children's charity and a Sickle Cell organization.

"I also gave a thousand pounds to my local community centre, to their classes, because I did gymnastics when I was younger and they needed updated gear," Ms Dynamite told the media.

Previously, they contributed their prize money to the community center that developed their group, as well as other local music groups.

Additionally the 1994 recipients M People contributed their prize to a MS organization after a close contact was identified with the disease.

"The victory was quite enough," stated singer the singer. "The cash was the bonus but we could do without the cherry, because we had the honor. So our success impacted somebody else's life."

Recently, the MVT announced it had rescued two small stages in the South East, by placing them under community ownership.

One venue in that area and the second in that location were bought under the community ownership scheme, which is supported by the arts council and music fans who purchase "shares" in the properties.
