Fall Classic Final Game Captures 51 Million Audience Members Across the US, Canada and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting 11-inning clash where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run averaged a combined 51M spectators in the US, Canada, and Japan territories. Major League Baseball reported this is the highest-rated Fall Classic finale after the 1991 edition contest between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest secured 27.33 million viewers on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and their digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 edition final game between the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This marks a 16% increase compared to the previous finale featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 was 7th, the fifth game was 8th, and the third game finished in thirteenth position.

Global Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded 11.6M viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English-language broadcast in Canada since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest began at 9 PM local time, it drew 12M. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – drew 13.1 million spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The entire seven-match series drew 15.71M viewers on Fox, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen viewership growth for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the opening game telecast on Univision, the total US average was 16.1 million. The total Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09M viewers, an eight percent increase compared to last year and Fox’s best playoff performance after 2017.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 various languages.
